GMRS Repeater Guidelines & Usage

Users must comply with ALL FCC mandated rules and regulations. In addition to the FCC rules, the following best practices are mandated by the association.  We're not out to be heavy handed repeater control freaks or radio imperialists.  The founder and trustees are fairly normal professional engineers with nothing to prove or gain from this endeavor.  Really!

1. Station Identification.  I'll emphasize what the FCC rules already say.  All stations are required to identify themselves, upon initially transmitting on the repeater and every fifteen minutes.  For families sharing a call sign, unit numbers, base, mobile or whatever designations work for you are acceptable.

2. When initially coming onto the repeater, when not previously in use (verified by LISTENING for a minute PRIOR to transmitting) it is only necessary to announce your call sign.

3. World wide radio communications protocol on any service is to ONLY USE THE TERM "BREAK" OR "BREAK BREAK" In times of emergency (break), or life threatening (break break).  Only CBers abuse this.  Please just speak your call sign when you wish to break in.  Note that this repeater is NOT affiliated with or monitored by a REACT team.  For those traveling or new to the area, REACT/BEARS operates a repeater system sponsored and maintained by Brevard County Emergency Management that covers a very wide area on 462.675 (PL141.3) Please contact them with any questions regarding emergency communications in Brevard County.

4. All stations using the repeater should pause after the previous station drops to allow time for new stations to identify.

5. Communication should be in plain language. "10" codes, especially CB and even Amateur Radio type jargon is not required and really frowned upon here.  Similarly, phonetics should be reserved for those instances when required for effective communication such as in a weak signal situation.

6. Content - I am not going to go into a long winded dissertation on what topics or vocabulary are not permitted here.  This is a family oriented system and members are encouraged to allow their mature children and teens to use the repeater.  Simply, do not engage in any conversation that would not be appropriate for a child or your mother to hear.  We all know what this means don't we? Good.

Above all else, we are sharing this repeater with no catch other than for those that might use it have a pleasant experience.
Please use common sense and courtesy at all times.
